Security Reminder

Safety is a key issue, not only for us as organisers, for other road users and for the authorities, but also for you as participants.

22 May 2024

Dear Cyclotour cyclists,

Safety is a key issue, not only for us as organisers, for other road users and for the authorities, but also for you as participants. With the increase in the number of participants, we are witnessing an increase in the speed of cyclists and a neglect of the basic concept of the Cyclotour: An unranked cyclosportive ride.

As a result, the rules accepted at the time of registration are being infringed by cyclists not following the traffic regulations, even though the event takes place on open roads.

We would therefore like to inform you of the decision taken by the Cyclotour du Léman organising committee, at the request of the Swiss police: the rules have been tightened and any person observed committing a breach of the highway code will be banned from the Cyclotour du Léman for an indefinite period. The staff on the Cyclotour route will have the right to denounce cyclists who do not respect the traffic rules and the police will have the right to contact these people.

We need to reinforce this measure so as not to detract from the experience and jeopardise the participation of cyclists who respect the highway code and the rules. Remember that for the majority of participants, the Cyclotour represents a challenge for its distance and that the rules are respected by the majority.

We would like to make it clear that this message is addressed to all those who have not respected the Cyclotour du Léman rules*

* Participants undertake to respect the traffic rules, in particular to cross roundabouts on the right. They must also ride in the right-hand lane, one behind the other, control their speed and trajectory, and follow the instructions of volunteers and race officials.

We thank you for your cooperation and hope that this message will be read and taken into account so that the event can continue to exist. Let's keep the pleasure of cycling in an organised environment and we’re looking forward of meeting you on the 26 May 2024.

Best regards,
Your Cyclotour du Léman Team
